As a multifaceted professional with a multicultural background (should I use the prefix 'multi' one more time?), I’ve always resisted categories and been fascinated by finding relationships between things.
While I appreciate specialization and expertise, I am excited by the multitude (I did it!) of ways that we can combine knowledge to innovate and solve problems.
While I value the emphasis placed on the individual in our legal system and cultural institutions, I want to better understand how people behave in groups and the interaction between people and their environment.
While I am passionate about cultural, economic, and political developments in my home country, comprehension of global systems and cultures is imperative as technology shrinks the distance between nations.
Things Connected is about discovering common ground between ideas, people, communities, industries, passions, and cultures.
Its focus is on integrating across boundaries to better understand people and society – how we shape things and how things shape us.
I want to explore questions like, ‘What can biology teach us about brand building?’
And highlight innovative people, books, films, and organizations that are integrating ideas to create, understand, and make progress.
Rolf Gates uses the phrase 'The Waves that Forgot the Ocean' to describe our tendency to forget that we are singular parts in a complex and vast system. At best, this blog will illuminate the many bridges that connect, bringing us all a little closer to recognizing 'the whole' and our part in it.
I get excited talking about:
- Communications/Marketing/Branding
- Self, Society, & Social Change
- Creativity and Innovation
- Pop culture/Funny New Stuff
- Corporate Social Responsibility
- Politics and Public Affairs
BOOKS the metaphysical club, the rise of the creative class, why we buy, maniac magee, democracy in america, the nature of prejudice, bowling alone, the souls of black folk, anything by david eddings,
